Erasmus Orchestra: new European call for applications to expand the Orchestra’s line-up now open
A new call for expressions of interest is now open for European conservatoires and music institutions wishing to contribute to the expansion of the Erasmus Orchestra, the first orchestra composed of students who have completed or are currently undertaking an Erasmus study experience.
The Orchestra was established in 2017 on the initiative of the Italian Erasmus+ National Agency INDIRE, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme. It is an initiative aimed at promoting the Programme through the creation of an artistic ensemble which, through the universal language of music and the arts, seeks to symbolically represent the value of a shared European identity.
Over the past six years, the Orchestra has performed more than 20 concerts in prestigious venues and theatres across Europe and beyond, involving more than 300 Erasmus students from 20 countries and 60 conservatoires. It has offered young musicians a highly formative professional concert experience while fostering internationally significant institutional partnerships.
The Erasmus Orchestra’s role in promoting Erasmus+ opportunities in the field of higher music, arts and dance education has been recognised as a good practice by the European Commission and other stakeholders, as well as by other Erasmus+ National Agencies.
A new European call
In light of these achievements, the Erasmus+ National Agency INDIRE has decided to further strengthen the initiative at international level by launching a new call for expressions of interest aimed at conservatoires and music institutions from all EU Member States and Erasmus+ associated countries.
The initiative is endorsed by the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC), which supports the project by providing European-level visibility, promotion and recognition.
The purpose of this new call is to establish a European pool of eligible students from which the Erasmus+ National Agency INDIRE may select musicians to integrate the Orchestra’s line-up for its musical productions in 2025.
Application details
The pool of eligible students will be established through the selection of applications submitted online by conservatoires and music institutions, as described in the call document.
Each conservatoire/music institution may nominate up to a maximum of five Erasmus students by submitting an application exclusively online by the deadline of 11 January 2025, which was subsequently extended to 20 January 2025.
